Research shows that our mentoring programs work. Children with a Big Brother or Big Sister show real differences in their personal and academic lives. They are more confident in their schoolwork performance, they get along better with their families and they’re 52% less likely to skip school.1

Your support goes far.

Your financial support helps us provide our programs and services right here in Washtenaw County—so we can develop more college grads, community leaders and entrepreneurs.

On an annual basis, for the past three years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washtenaw County has served an average of 444 children through our Community and School Based Mentoring programs.  The program's leadership and staff have worked diligently dring this time to esnure the process of enrollment and matching for volunteers and children/families is efficient, and that as many children as possible are matched with a mentor.

We accomplish this with a paid staff of four full time employees, three part time employees, three AmeriCorps members, a team of interns from the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University's Schools of Social work and a corps of 500 volunteers mentors.

Your financial support starts lots of things, like:
  • recruiting new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers
  • covering the costs of background checks, while ensuring trained professionals match Littles to responsible Bigs
  • enabling ongoing supervision and relationship support for every Big, Little and Little’s family
  • providing cultural and social activities to enrich the opportunities for children
